14 Weeks!

5:10 PM Posted In Edit This 0 Comments »
I'm 14 weeks today and Baby K is now the size of a nectarine. Not too much to report on this week. I'm finally to my second trimester. They call it the "feel good" trimester. I must say I've been feeling pretty good lately! I feel like I'm finally getting more energy. On Saturday I spent almost the entire day cleaning and organizing. I didn't really want to clean of course and I would have rather been lazy but I actually found energy to get off my butt and do something productive! I've have so many things to get done around the house so I'm glad my energy is finally coming back!

This week, if we're having a boy, the prostate is forming, and if we're having a girl, her ovaries are moving down into her pelvis. The roof of his tiny mouth is fully formed now and his constant sucking reflexes are helping to create full, cherubic cheeks. I can't wait to squeeze his little cheeks!

Visit

So my mom came to visit this last weekend. I don't get to see her much since she currently lives in Fargo. She came down on Friday night and left Sunday morning. Friday night we just ate some dinner and relaxed. Surprisingly she fell asleep on the couch before me and I made it until 9:30! Heck yeah! 9:30 is late for me when I’m just sitting at home. I usually go to bed between 8:00-8:30! This baby sure tuckers me out.

Saturday morning my mom was looking for something crafty to do. I’ve been saving a project for her since I knew she would want to do something like that while she is here. If you don’t know my mom then you would probably find this weird that I put her to work while she visits but she likes to do this kind of stuff. She can’t wait to help me with the baby’s room. But like I’ve said before, we can’t get started on that quite yet. Anyways my crafty project for her was to reupholster our bench that sits on the end of our bed so the little dogs can jump up on the bed. The top was completely ruined by Winston jumping on it and putting holes in it (and it was kind of ugly). I had the fabric picked out already and I was going to attempt to do this project on my own but then she said she was coming to visit so I thought I’d save it for her – since she has reupholstered many items before! Plus, I wasn’t sure if I’d even be able to do it right since I’ve never done that before. Anyways, here’s my new bench! It makes the room look so much cuter! I just love it.

After our craft project (I just watched) we headed to Hudson for some lunch and grocery shopping. My mom wanted to make us all a yummy dinner and since it was so nice outside she decided on steaks on the grill. My brother and Ashley came over Saturday evening and we just hung out on our ½ built deck and then had a fabulous dinner with the works – steak, baked potato, salad, French bread, and pie. Yum yum! Baby likes steak!

Sunday morning we slowly got up and then my mom left. She had a 5ish hour drive home and needed to be home around 2:00. I can’t wait for when she can come and help me with the baby’s room. My mom’s side of the family is so crafty and they have so many great ideas! Hopefully someday I’ll be just as crafty…

13 Weeks!

I'm 13 weeks today! My little bean is now the size of a tangerine. He's getting so big!! I'm feeling pretty good minus being tired all the time and over the last week I've been getting headaches everyday and they seem to last most of the day. Headaches are no fun. But I hear that after your first trimester you start to get some energy back and aren't so tired. Hopefully that's the case because there is so much I want to get done this spring/summer.

Up until now, my little bean's head has been outpacing his body, but now his body is growing faster. His legs still need to grow longer, but this week his arms will lengthen to be proportionate with his body, and he'll be able to stick his thumb in his mouth (how cute)! Also by now, all of his essential organs and systems have formed.

Today I went shopping with a friend and decided to purchase a few outfits for my little bean. Shopping for him is so much fun! I can see how easy it will be to spoil him. 98% of the clothes I bought are neutral but I bought one thing 100% boy and one thing 100% girl. I can't wait to know what the little bean is so I can go shopping for more outfits and stuff and not have to get only neutral. There is so much cute stuff out there!

FYI - I know I refer to my little bean only as a "him". It's just so much easier than saying him or her. Only 7 more weeks until we get to find out if it's a boy or girl!

Pregnant or fat?

Yesterday I had my first stranger comment on my pregnancy! She said she thinks there is something in the water at Mudge, Porter because there are two of us that are pregnant and then she asked me when I was due. I've never seen her here before and I know she didn't overhear any pregnancy talk. She just noticed the other pregnant gal walk out the door and then saw me. That made me feel good because I’m starting to look more pregnant and not just fat. Haha. This is the in-between stage that I’m not so fond of. I’m sure there are lots of people wondering but don’t have the balls to ask – just in case I was just getting fat.

Random Bullet Day

I have lots of thoughts today, many of which I cannot write about because they would just get me in trouble. So, let’s just write about the safe topics.

- It’s 70 degrees outside right now and all I want to do is be outside. 70 degrees for March is awesome and I wish I could fully enjoy it. Instead I’m working until 5. At least I’ll have a little bit of time before the sun goes down and I can drive home with the moon roof open.

- I have decided to color my hair again (see last post). Even after talking about it with friends (since none of them know how to comment on a blog ;)) I still wasn’t sure which way to go. But this morning it hit me. I looked into the mirror and said “ugh, gross”. My hair looks like crap because it is in desperate need of a haircut and I just really want to love my hair again and I’m not going to be happy with this “going natural” color. It just looks gross and dingy. So I’ll be forking over the money and dying it. I feel more comfortable waiting to dye it until after my first trimester is over and I’ll be 14 weeks on the 25th. So, end of March comes my new hairdo! I can’t wait.

- The Hunger Games comes out next Friday and I’m very very excited to go see it. I’m even more excited because we are making a girls night out of it and going out for dinner before the movie. It’s so nice to get out of the house and do something fun! Maybe I’ll read the first book again before the movie to tide me over until then.

- My mom is coming to visit this weekend and is staying at my house. I’m excited to see her but I wish I had more stuff I needed help with. She is very excited to start helping me with the baby’s room, etc. but I can’t do anything at this point since I don’t know the sex yet. So, hopefully I can find other projects that I need her help on. She is very crafty.

- I would like a new phone. Somehow I scratched the so called “scratch resistant” surface and now it bugs me. It’s just a little tiny scratch but I can’t stop staring at it each time I use my phone. Annoying. And I can’t get a new phone until October. Boo… that’s just some of my complaining.

- Phil and I slowly (very slowly) started the name game for Baby K. I have listed probably 10-15 names (3 of which I’m in love with) and he says yuck to each and every one of them. So, I told him I’m sick of him saying yuck to my names so he needs to look at the book and come up with a list. I’m prepared for a very boring list with names like Steve or Bob. That’s not going to happen.

That is all I have for you at this moment. I wish I could talk to you all about something else but I shouldn’t. Someday maybe I’ll be able to vent.

To dye or not to dye

I’m not sure what to do here people so I need your thoughts. I’ve been going back and forth with whether I want to keep dying my hair darker every 3 months or try to grow it out and go all natural. I’ve been dying my hair since I was about 16 years old (maybe even younger) and I haven’t seen my natural color since then. So, I don’t really know what I’d look like with my natural color. I know it’s a dark dirty blonde or a very light brunette – aka a very boring color. Over the years I’ve been dying it a darker brunette. I love when it’s dark but it’s such a hassle to keep dying it every 3 months and it’s very expensive. I've tried dying it at home to save money and it never turns out good so I will not waste my money there. So, what should I do? Save money and grow it out (even though you can see the grow lines) or keep dying it the color I love and just fork over the money? I need to decide soon because I’m in desperate need of a haircut. Help me!

12 Weeks!

Today I'm 12 weeks! This is the week I've been waiting for ever since I found out I was pregnant. For some reason finally being 12 weeks makes me feel a whole lot better. My little bean has come a long way in the last week! He went from being the size of a fig to a lime. Lots of exciting things are happening this week for him. His muscles start to bulk up at this stage and he's getting busy stretching and kicking. When I put my hand on my belly, he will likely wiggle in response because his reflexes are starting to develop -- though it's too early to feel his movements. He'll also start to open and close his fingers, curl his toes, and jerk and kick his arms and legs.

I've still been feeling better with the morning sickness. It still comes and goes but not very much. I'm still exhausted and don't expect that to go away anytime soon. I caught a nasty cold this week. It started on Monday, the day we flew home from Arizona. Friday was the worst day. Being pregnant and having a cold is the worst. You can't take any meds unless you go to the doc and get something he will approve. I slept for only about 3 hours Thursday night because I couldn't breath through my nose and my throat was on fire and I didn't find relief until Friday night when I decided to try the netti pot. The netti pot was a last resort because it grosses me out but let me tell you it was sure worth it. Within a day my nose was practically clear just from using the netti pot twice. It's a good thing cough drops are okay too because I've gone through more than a bag of those life savors. I toughed it out though and I'm finally starting to feel better. :)

Arizona!

We left for Arizona Thursday afternoon and arrived around 5:15 p.m. Just in time for dinner! My grandpa took us to a really cool place called Organ Pizza for dinner. Let’s just say it’s not what I expected at all. All over the ceilings and walls are instruments and there is a gigantic organ in the middle. The organ has so many keys and I really don’t know how the guy could play it so well. It’s hard to explain but it was super cool. By the time dinner was done and we watched the guy play for a while it was pretty late and time to get to the park where my grandpa lives.

Organ Pizza

The next morning we left at 8:30 for a 4-wheeling trip into the mountains. We went 66 miles, round trip and went up into the mountains about 5450 feet. I don’t think we got back until about 5:00 p.m. I was quite worried about this little 4-wheeling trip being pregnant and all. I have to pee all the stinkin time and we had to pop a squat in the middle of nowhere if we needed to go. I also need to snack often so I don’t get dizzy or get morning sickness and I get so tired over nothing. But I did really well! We made plenty of stops along the way to take pictures and just see the land. It was beautiful! Pictures could never describe the beauty of the mountains. I’m quite mad at myself because I didn’t take very many pictures. Oh well, it’s all in my head. The mountains are not how I pictured them. There is a ton of cactuses, huge rocks and green bushes (most everything is prickly) and the higher you go up the more normal trees and greenery you see. When we got to the top of the mountain there was no snow but the guy I was driving with (Charlie) said there usually is snow up there and sometimes they can’t even get up that high because there is too much snow. He said it all must have melted recently because on some of the trails and creeks there was a tiny little stream of water which is unusual since they had no rain lately. After getting to the top we made our way back down which was actually easier and we stopped at “the shack” for lunch. What’s crazy is that some people were driving most of the way up the mountain in their jeeps. You can barely fit a side-by-side 4-wheeler on those trails and most of them aren’t smooth riding! I would be scared shittless to take a jeep! I’m so glad I decided to go – something I’ll never forget.

Just a little hill by the big mountains

Up about 5450 feet in the mountains! Pictures will never be able to really show
how beautiful it was and how high up we really were.

"The shack" where we ate lunch.

Later that night we relaxed in the trailer and cooked up some steaks and baked potatoes for supper. Just my kind of supper! Then we learned how to play up the river. Or is it down the river? I’m not quite sure. Either way – it’s a card game and you go up and down the river. It was fun and we ended up playing a few rounds every night.

The next day, Saturday, we headed to an authentic remnant of an old west town. Everything was set back in time (except the food of course). It was pretty cool except I didn’t take any pictures. Oops! Not too much to say about this one. We just walked through the town, watched a “shoot out” and had a snack. After the old western town we headed to Tortilla Flats which is another authentic remnant of an old west town, nestled in the midst of the Tonto National Forest, Superstition Mountain Range. Tortilla Flats was only about 10 miles from the old west town but it took us like a half hour to get there because the drive there was through the mountains and we were driving on cliffs. It was scary!! Thankfully Justen drove instead of my grandpa. There were even bridges that were only one way. So if you saw a car driving through it you’d have to wait until they passed for you to go. The scenery was quite beautiful though!

Here are a few photos at a tourist spot along the way to Tortilla Flats.

Once we got to Tortilla Flats we had lunch at their only restaurant. The restaurant is a huge tourist spot. Anyone who’s been to Mesa/Tempe/Phoenix area has probably been there. The walls are covered floor to ceiling with dollar bills with people’s names written on them and at the bar you sit on saddles, not bar stools. The bar was packed the whole time we were there so I didn’t get a chance to sit on a saddle. Ashley snuck on one when a lady went to the bathroom though. Haha

After lunch my grandpa decided to show us another “hot spot” in AZ. The ground is rock and there are indentations from where the horse and buggies had their trail. It’s amazing how the buggies could make a path through the rocks like that!

Here's the trail the buggies made in the rocks.

After our adventurous day we hung out at the park. Had another yummy dinner and then decided to break into the old folk’s billiard room. Okay, we didn’t really break in – it was unlocked. But it was like 10:00 p.m. so all the lights were off and all the covers were on the pool tables. Old people don’t stay up very late I guess. So we played a few rounds of pool and Justen and Ashley kicked our butts both times. Phil wasn’t the most helpful team member. I got most of our balls in. I should have just played them by myself. Haha. (love you Phil!) After a few rounds of pool I was going to try to get one of them to jump in the hot tub but as we got to the hot tub they were pulling the cover over that as well. Poo… things shut down early in the old folk’s park!

By Sunday I think we tired my grandpa out a little so he let us take the truck and we went to play some mini golf (in Mesa I think). We played 18 holes. I haven’t played mini golf in years and it was so much fun! It also felt so good to be outside in the sun getting a tan at the same time. After some mini golf we headed to Phoenix and ate lunch at Hooters (Justen’s pick of course). That’s when the bar hopping started. Man, it’s not very often that I crave a beer but I sure craved one then. I made Justen get a blue moon so I could have one tiny little sip and pretend I could drink with them. After Hooters we went to the Hard Rock where they had a few more drinks and that’s where I found my Arizona t-shirt. We then decided to head closer to the park and stop and another bar that sounded cool – the “what the hell bar”. It wasn’t what I expected but I guess I should have expected that. It was just a rundown bar with a ton of bikers. But they had a covered patio outside so we, I mean they, grabbed some more beers and we sat on the patio and relaxed.

By Monday it was time to go home. We woke up at 4:00 a.m. and finally got to our house with the pups around 12:30ish. I was exhausted to say the least so I took a little 2 hour nap and then got going on laundry.

Our trip was short and sweet but it was perfect! I get homesick fast so by Sunday night I was ready to go home and see my pups. Winnie had a good time at his auntie’s house and the rest of them stayed at grandmas (thank you Jewells, Max and Rita for watching our babies!).

11 Weeks!

I'm a day late. I'm not going to lie, this may happen from time to time. Reason for my lateness this week is because Phil and I were in Arizona until this morning. That's another blog for another day. I am happy to report that I've been feeling much better in the morning sickness department. I was quite worried about going to AZ and feeling sick and tired most of the time. I'm actually quite proud of myself. We were busy all day, everyday we were there and I barely had any morning sickness. I also did pretty good with the exhaustion. Don't get me wrong, I was tired but we still did everything that we wanted to do. I just slept like a rock at night. :)

Our little bean is now the size of a fig which is about 2 inches long. Our little bean is busy growing hair follicles, fingernails, and ovaries (if she's a girl). The little bean has distinct human characteristics now, with hands and feet in front of his body, with ears nearly in their final shape, open nasal passages on the tip of his tiny nose, a tongue and palate in the mouth, and visible nipples.

I had my first doctor's appointment the day before we left for Arizona. I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The appointment took forever. First we waited in the waiting room for a while and two Jessicas were called while we were sitting there. I felt so stupid getting up and then realizing there was another Jessica. They should really call your first and last names... dumb. Anyways. I met our doctor for the first time and I really liked him. I picked him because I didn't want a midwife and a few of my friends have used him and are currently using him again and really liked him. We got to hear our little bean's heartbeat! It was 172. Doc said that doesn't mean anything gender wise. haha It took him a few minutes to find the heartbeat and I started to get really nervous. But once he found it a big grin came across our faces. What a cute little bean! It all seems so much more real now that we've heard the heartbeat. I can't wait to meet him/her!
