Sewing date!

5:38 AM Posted In , , , Edit This 0 Comments »
On Friday I had a sewing date with my very pregnant friend, Lynsie.  She got started on some baby projects and I finished up a couple of mine.  Mine have been sitting halfway done for a few months now and I finally finished them!!  I finished a crib sheet and a changing table pad cover for Rem. Of course I had to have Rem show them off.  :)

DIY Changing Table Pad Covers

Project #1 on my new sewing machine was changing table pad covers.  Who wants to look at the ugly pad or spend $20+ on a plain boring one at the store?  Not I!  I got the tutorial for how to make the covers here.  This is not the first tutorial I have used from this blogger!  Here's the finished product:

The fabric (which I found at Joann's):

I also made a 2nd cover out of this monkey fabric:

This sewing project was so easy and didn't take long at all!  I didn't time it or anything but I know it took me less than an hour to make.  :-)

The Big 27

Yesterday was my 27th birthday.  The hubby had to work so as he was leaving he woke me up and asked me if I wanted to get up and open my present.  I told him I was too tired to move so he said it would be on the table and that he wanted to give it to me right away because I might want to use it.  I was stumped.  What would I want that I would use right away?  Well, it wasn't long after Phil left that Remy decided he was hungry so I got up and under a blanket (yes, under a blanket - what Phil calls "wrapping") was a brand new sewing machine!  I was so excited!!!  He knew I was going to be sewing that day.  So, Phil's mom can finally have her sewing machine back because I finally have my own!!  Whoot whoot!  And Phil topped it off with a DQ ice cream cake!  My favorite!!!!!

27 was one of my favorite birthdays thus far because I got to spend it with my favorite little guy.  I didn't realize until the day was halfway over that we matched.  :)

Projects Galore!

I feel like I have ants in my pants.  I seriously don’t want to sit here thinking about all of my fun projects that lay ahead.  I want to be doing them.  Now that we know the little one moving around in my belly is a boy I know exactly what I want to do in the nursery.  Since I know what I want to do finally I want to get it started asap!!  Today I’m going to buy the paint and a few things I need for my other projects.  I’m thinking I will start painting his nursery this week and get that out of the way since it’s the least fun project.  Next will be my sewing projects.  I’m going to make burp clothes, boppy covers, pillows and curtains.  Maybe a few other things as well…  Depends on how good I am at this sewing business.  I borrowed my mother-in-law’s sewing machine since I don’t have one and didn’t want to purchase one in case I didn’t like sewing.  If I do end up really enjoying sewing I’ll buy my own at some point.  But for now I’m borrowing hers.  Last night I decided I better get acquainted with a sewing machine again since it has been like 10+ years since I’ve used one.  After a little struggling I finally got it down!  I forgot how easy sewing is!  Now that I’m comfortable with sewing I know the burp clothes will be a synch to make.  Another project I’ll be working on is my fabric hoops which will hang on the wall as decoration.  Here’s a picture (ignore the numbers):

I got this idea from a random lady’s blog as I was searching ideas for a nursery.  I’m in love with her nursery and I’m going to attempt to have my little man’s turn out similar to hers.  Anyways, back to the fabric hoops.  I need to find a bunch of different, fun, colorful fabrics first.  So hopefully I can get to Joann’s soon so I can start that project as well!  I have other projects in mind but we'll see how these go first.  Man I just can’t wait!  I bet my favorite parts of the nursery will be all of my home-made touches!
