Hooter Hider

5:38 PM Posted In , , Edit This 0 Comments »
I invited my friend Loin over for a craft night the other night.  She brought her sewing machine on over and made some zipper pillows (I love the fabric she choose) and I made a hooter hider.  Here is the tutorial I used.  The only difference is that I didn't use the boning.  I hate having to use these things but when in public or when people are over it's necessary (for their comfort and mine).  So if I have to use one from time to time, might as well make it cute!!

Not Your Ordinary Bookshelves

Another pinterest project finished!  Remy's nursery is looking more and more complete!  This project was soooo easy and much less expensive than buying bookshelves.  And it's much cuter!  Just a tiny bit of easy-peasy sewing, a few screws in the wall and walla!  Here is a link to the tutorial I used (gotta give credit where credit is due)!!  Now I just need to fill it with books.  :)

DIY Changing Table Pad Covers

Project #1 on my new sewing machine was changing table pad covers.  Who wants to look at the ugly pad or spend $20+ on a plain boring one at the store?  Not I!  I got the tutorial for how to make the covers here.  This is not the first tutorial I have used from this blogger!  Here's the finished product:

The fabric (which I found at Joann's):

I also made a 2nd cover out of this monkey fabric:

This sewing project was so easy and didn't take long at all!  I didn't time it or anything but I know it took me less than an hour to make.  :-)

Remy's Nursery

Remy's nursery:

I think I started Remy's nursery back in May.  The first thing I did was search for ideas online.  After we found out we were having a boy I decided on the "theme" and started my projects.  Picking a theme was the hardest part.  Did I want to go with an actual theme like elephants, birds, cars, etc.?  I decided that just wasn't for me.  So, I decided bright would be our theme.  I wanted all of the accents in his room to be colorful and fun.  Since there was going to be a lot of color here and there I decided to paint the room a neutral color.  And since my favorite neutral color is gray, that's what I chose.  I found a lady's blog where I stole a lot of ideas from.  This was my inspiration for Remy's nursery: inspiration.

After painting his room I started all of my random projects.  I copied my inspiration's fabric hoop idea and the only thing I really changed was that I painted my hoops white.

I also found an adorable wooden horse at a garage sale for $10 and one of my favorite things in my inspiration's nursery was the red painted horse.  So I copied that idea as well:

My next project was the curtains.  I searched and searched online for the perfect fabric that wouldn't cost me a fortune.  I didn't want anything to busy but it had to have color.  So I went with something simple in a bright light blue.  Sewing them took forever because they are lined but it was well worth it.  I love how they turned out.

My grandma really wanted to make Remy's mobile.  She is very crafty and I knew she would do an excellent job so I let her have her way with them.  I gave her my leftover fabric from the fabric hoops and told her I wanted hot air balloons.  This is what she came up with and I love it:

My last project was his name.  This had to be one of the last projects since we had to pick his name first!  But I knew all along that I was going to buy wooden letters and paint them each a separate bright color.

Technically his room is not 100% complete.  There are still a few small projects I want to do and there are a few items missing from his room that we just don't have yet.  But the jist of it is done and I am happy to share it with you all. :)

Projects Galore!

I feel like I have ants in my pants.  I seriously don’t want to sit here thinking about all of my fun projects that lay ahead.  I want to be doing them.  Now that we know the little one moving around in my belly is a boy I know exactly what I want to do in the nursery.  Since I know what I want to do finally I want to get it started asap!!  Today I’m going to buy the paint and a few things I need for my other projects.  I’m thinking I will start painting his nursery this week and get that out of the way since it’s the least fun project.  Next will be my sewing projects.  I’m going to make burp clothes, boppy covers, pillows and curtains.  Maybe a few other things as well…  Depends on how good I am at this sewing business.  I borrowed my mother-in-law’s sewing machine since I don’t have one and didn’t want to purchase one in case I didn’t like sewing.  If I do end up really enjoying sewing I’ll buy my own at some point.  But for now I’m borrowing hers.  Last night I decided I better get acquainted with a sewing machine again since it has been like 10+ years since I’ve used one.  After a little struggling I finally got it down!  I forgot how easy sewing is!  Now that I’m comfortable with sewing I know the burp clothes will be a synch to make.  Another project I’ll be working on is my fabric hoops which will hang on the wall as decoration.  Here’s a picture (ignore the numbers):

I got this idea from a random lady’s blog as I was searching ideas for a nursery.  I’m in love with her nursery and I’m going to attempt to have my little man’s turn out similar to hers.  Anyways, back to the fabric hoops.  I need to find a bunch of different, fun, colorful fabrics first.  So hopefully I can get to Joann’s soon so I can start that project as well!  I have other projects in mind but we'll see how these go first.  Man I just can’t wait!  I bet my favorite parts of the nursery will be all of my home-made touches!
