And we decided on house #......

7:08 AM Posted In , Edit This 0 Comments »
So tomorrow night is the big night! We are putting in our first offer ever on a house! We are really excited about it but also scared to death. I’m trying not to get too excited and trying not to think about the decorating yet because it might not happen. If I get too excited and I have too many plans in my head than I’ll be crushed if it falls through. I’m guessing you are wondering which house we decided to put an offer on... We are going with House #2! Surprising? We both love each home but this one makes more sense for us right now. If we get it I think we will be very happy there! :-) I’m not sure how long this all takes since it is a short sale but we are putting in the offer Tuesday night. I think there is a good chance we won’t get the house because of the liens and such on it but we are just going to hope for the best and try! Hopefully my next post will be that we got the house!

Here is a picture of the house. Isn't it cute!!!

House Update

I feel like I’m on House Hunters and I need to choose between three great choices. We looked at 3 houses last night and I liked all three! We can’t frickin decide which one we want! House #3 was adorable!!! The main floor was perfect. It was pretty much everything I want in a house. That was until we walked into the basement. We were both like WTF? There was a lot of square footage down stairs but a ton of rooms and the “family room” was not workable. There was absolutely no way to put a big screen TV down there so Phil can have his “man cave”. Phil hated the house. So I guess that makes #3 a dud. :(

And then there were 2… and we have a dilemma. We both really like House #1 AND House #2! They are both very different from each other but they both have great qualities that we like. When we were writing down the pros and cons last night the pros and cons for each house were dead even! Arg, this is so hard!

Let’s start with the main pros of House #1: lots of privacy, 35 acres, a house we would probably live in forever, huge deck, walk-out basement, good layout in basement, has a pole shed, kids would go to Baldwin school and the house has a ton of potential.

Cons for House #1: Farther out than we want, needs LOTS of work, top of our price range, pole shed needs a cement floor, no dishwasher and there is currently an offer on it.

Pros for House #2: beautiful new house, less expensive by far, needs a lot less work (only paint and a floor for the basement), has a walk-in closet, has double ovens, and slightly shorter drive to work.

Cons for House #2: not much privacy because there are houses next to it, not many acres, there are 3 liens on the house so right now we don’t know how long it will take to get in – if we even can, no deck yet, yard needs TLC since the weeds almost up to our waist, the kids would go to Hammond school and there is no shed for Phil.

And the word on the street is…

We CAN put another offer in on our favorite house!!!! Hurray!!!!!!! However, there is a stipulation. We must submit an offer higher than the first offer and we don’t know what that amount is, nor will they tell us. Shall we take a gamble?

We are looking at it again Wednesday night and will probably put an offer in!!!! I’m excited/nervous/scared/all of the above!

I know, I know... It has been forever since I last blogged. You should really forgive me though because life has been crazy. And that is no overstatement.

Phil and I started our house hunt again. In the last week and a half we looked at 11 houses. After the 9th house I started to get frustrated. Phil and I were not agreeing on anything! When I loved a house, he hated it. When he loved a house, I hated it. So at the 9th house I told our realtor that we are never going to agree on anything so good luck on finding us a house. Then we were off to house #10. We both LOVED IT! It was the first house we looked at that we both liked! Since we both liked it I got really excited. Then the realtor told us that there is already an offer on the house. SERIOUSLY! But then she told us that the offer will most likely fall through. Phew! But we won't know until March 26th if we can put an offer in. I'm hoping that the other people's offer falls through and I hope we get it!!! The house is perfect for us. Let's see... it was built in 1992, 1,900 some square feet upstairs and another 1,900 unfinished square feet downstairs (in the walk-out basement), and 35 acres. We don't really need that many acres of course but a local farmer rents out about 30 acres.

Here is a picture!

So right now we are told to patiently wait and see................................. I will let you know what happens!

Other exciting news is that I am officially done with college!! Yay! I turned in the last of my finals last night! :-) I'm free! I don't know what to do with myself but I love it!

That's all I've got for you right now. It is time to go do laundry, clean and give the dogs a much needed bath. Phil and I leave for Florida on Monday so I'm sure I'll blog when I get back and tell you all about it.

P.S. I promise I will blog more often!

Willing to do anything...

I am very indecisive… I have been going back and forth and all over the place with this house hunting business. I so badly want to buy a house that I find that I’m willing to do almost anything, even live in town. Yes, I said I would be willing to live in town. Me? The one who always said I would never buy a house in town?! I seriously need to compose myself and think about this. What is more important? Buying a house now just because I want one right now? OR Waiting until the right one comes along (even if it means waiting another year or so)? I know what you are thinking, what about the $8,000?! I don’t care about the $8,000. To be honest, I’m not even thinking about that. My guess is that the price of houses will drop 25% after this $8,000 deal from the government goes away. Either way, I don’t care. I have made myself stop and think about this. No, I don’t want to give up my dreams about buying a house out in the country. And no, I’m not willing to buy just any cheap house out in the country. I don’t need a huge house or anything. I just want something with character and a little land and privacy. I have now come back down to reality and am no longer living on cloud 9. We will wait until the right house comes along. No matter how long that takes. Maybe I’ll find it tomorrow or maybe I will find it in a year from now, whatever. Plus, if we wait I’ll be able to save more money and maybe I’ll be earning more money and we could afford something in a higher price range. I have saved a crazy amount of money in the last 5 months. If we don’t have a house within the next 6 months then I can double that. Now that would be awesome. That is all for now... just wanted to tell you all how desperate I was. Glad I snapped out of it.

Sorry it has been a while since I have written a decent blog. I have been a very busy lady the last few weeks with homework and life. Plus, I don’t really have much to talk about. Let’s start with an update of what happened last week. Phil and I had another date night at the Orchard last Friday night. It is incredibly nice to have a decent restaurant within a few miles of our house. Then Saturday we went over to Phil’s mom’s house where we had a family picnic. Phil’s sister, Val was in town (she lives in Portland) and she brought her boyfriend Eduardo over with her so we could all meet him. Eduardo is from Peru and he speaks Spanish. He does speak English fairly well but I can’t always understand him. lol Val speaks Spanish too and I can’t understand a word they are saying when they start talking. Overall the picnic was very nice. Lots of great food and family. :) I have become very fond of my future in-laws. I’m hoping I can get Phil talked in to taking a vacation in February and going up to Portland to visit both of his sisters. We both need a vacation and it would be nice to see his sisters again. Plus we have never been to Portland and I have heard it is very pretty over there. Anyways, then on Sunday we did a little shopping in Woodbury and then headed to the Minnesota State Fair. I gained like two pounds from all the food we ate but it was worth it! We had gyros, cheese curds, ice cream, and of course cotton candy. You can never go to the fair and not get cheese curds or cotton candy! Then we met up with some friends and headed over to see the talent show. Phil and I only stayed for half of it because I could tell it wasn’t Phil’s thing. I think next year we will skip the fair. Maybe do it every other year or something. I just don’t like all the people! It was jam packed and you could barely walk around! Then Monday came along and I went on a little shopping trip with my friend Jewells. It feels like it has been forever since I last went shopping! I got a cute new necklace (which I am wearing right now), a couple new pairs of earrings, two zip up hoodies (both under 8 bucks!), 2 new pairs of pajama bottoms (because Phil HATES my comfy sweat pants), a free pair of undies from Victoria Secret, and a pretty new shirt for work. Then Tuesday it is back to work… and now it is finally Friday. :) Last night Phil and I went and looked at 5 houses. 2 were in Hammond and 3 were in Baldwin. I liked 2 of the houses that were in Baldwin and Phil only liked the 1 and only house I hated. This whole house hunting thing is going to take forever since Phil and I have completely different taste. He hates split level houses, and I don’t really care, it doesn’t bother me one bit. If we are going to buy in town we want a newer house and pretty much all the new houses in our price range are split level. Tonight Phil and I are going to go to the Hammond Hotel. I like going to the small town restaurants. Then Saturday and Sunday I have no plans! I’m so excited to be able to do whatever I want! Except for the fact that I have to do homework. But I’ve only got one more week after this weekend! Then I finally get a tiny break! What else do I have to talk about…. you know, I can’t really think of anything else at the moment. I guess that is all for now.

Vacation Please?

7:52 AM Posted In , Edit This 4 Comments »
I really need a vacation right now. Where should I go? I would like to go somewhere far away but I can’t afford to do that. I am saving every penny I can for a down payment on a house (which by the way I think we might have found). So that leaves a small vacation. A small vacation could be nice too. Phil and I were thinking Duluth again. We have only been there once and it was a couple years ago during the fall. It would be nice to go there again but I would also like to go somewhere else. Does anyone have any ideas about a nice little vacation spot that isn’t too far away? We probably want to keep the drive less than 4 hours.

Did I mention that I think Phil and I found our house?! I went and looked at it with my friend Lynsie a couple weeks ago and loved it. I brought Phil to look at it last night and he surprised me by liking it too! We have quite a lot to talk about before we get it inspected and buy the house (if that’s what we want to do) but so far so good. Phil was worried that it wouldn’t have high speed internet from Baldwin-Telecom but I called and they said they did carry it out there. Yay! They just don’t carry cable TV, which is fine by me. If it didn’t have high speed internet from B-Telecom then we would end up paying $150ish for satellite or dish or whatever it is. No thanks! So that was a huge plus for Phil. So sometime over the next few days we will sit down and talk about it. I’m trying not to get too excited about it because I don’t want to give my hopes up but I can actually see myself living there. There are 5 beautiful acres, completely private with trees surrounding the entire property. It is a huge house. I think there are 5 bedrooms, there are 3 bathrooms, a huge living room, a huge basement, a huge deck, a cute sunroom, a huge pole barn and a two door garage. There is work that needs to be done but they are all pretty small projects with the exception of the kitchen (which is workable as-is). Phil would like to look at more houses to be sure but I am set on this one. So I guess we will see and I’ll keep you updated. :-)

More fun weekends

Sleep… all I want right now is a little more zzz’s. I had a fabulous weekend but I’m exhausted and I wish I could have slept in today to make up for it. But I had to get up at 6:20 and get ready for work! I would give anything on this cold and rainy day to go back home and crawl in bed with Phil and the puppies… doesn’t that sound nice?

The house hunting went quite well on Friday. We had 7 homes scheduled to take a look at and we looked at 6 of them. We pulled up to one of them and decided it was too scary so we didn’t even get out of the car. Anyways, we started in Hammond and we looked at a new home that was built and it had a 2 acre lot. I liked the home but in a few years there would be a lot of neighbors. However, I did talk to our realtor about building one of these homes on part of my dad’s land. Phil wasn’t to keen on that idea though. He would want us to go find our own contractor and have them only build the guts and we would finish the rest. I like that idea, however, that would cost too much because if I were going to build starting from scratch, I would want to make it a home I will want to live in forever. Then we were off to Woodville. We looked at a really cute house a couple miles West of Woodville out in the country. I loved, loved, loved the land!! It was 5 acres of mowed lawn surrounded by trees so you couldn’t see the neighbors down the road. It was very private and very pretty. It was the most ideal type of land I want. The house was really cute too but it was one bedroom too small. It would be big enough for us now but once we had kids we would need to get a bigger house. Then we were off to the next house which was about a mile down the road. This one was my favorite! It had 5 beautiful acres, a huge house, a 2 car garage and a pole barn (Phil’s domain). The house was huge and it would need a lot of work but it is all small things that need to be done with the exception of the kitchen. If we bought the house, we could slowly do the work we want to it, starting with the kitchen. Everything is livable and doesn’t NEED to be redone but we would fix it here and there. So I am very excited to show Phil this house but I’m scared that he won’t like it. I guess we will see! After this house we headed towards the Ellsworth, River Falls area and looked at 3 more houses. I really liked one but I think it is too far out. All in all I had a very good experience with the house hunting this weekend and I’m starting to get excited about it again! Yay!

Saturday was a long, fun day. I started the day off with homework and then proceeded to clean my entire house. I would like to say that my house is now clean but I came home on Sunday and it was a mess again due to Phil… Anyways, after I got the house cleaned I headed over to Jewell’s house and we all left for the hotel in Minneapolis. Once we got there we got situated and then headed down to the pool. We did a little swimming, well, I went in up to my waist and then decided that I would rather sit in the hot sauna and then we went back up to our room and hung out, ate some pizza, and pre-drank. At around 10:30 we headed to Spin. When we got there it was dead but it started to pick up around 11:00 and then all of a sudden the place was packed! Drinks were a dollar until 11:30 so we got a couple of $1 pink panties and then danced the night away. The dance floor was so packed that you could barely move. There were way too many guys and they all wanted a piece of ass. It was disgusting… they were very “grabby”. All I wanted was to have fun dancing with my girls and we had to rub off all these guys all night. But it was a good night and I think we all had a lot of fun! I will put some pictures up later. Sunday we got up and got ready then headed to Perkins for some delicious breakfast. It was sooo good and I ate really, really fast. By the time we got home it was probably around 2:00 and I went straight for the shower. After I showered and started the laundry I took a tiny nap and then watched movies the rest of the night with Phil. We watched Yes Man with Jim Carey and it was just alright. I was expecting more because I like Jim Carey but I think his time is over… Then we watched the third Mummy movie. I forget what it’s called. I thought this movie would be great because the first two were good but I was wrong. It sucked. For one thing, they didn’t even have all of the original actors. Another thing, they didn’t seem to age at all from the last movie to this one and their son aged like 20 years. How is that possible? Anyways, take my advice and don’t see it.

Today I’m tired and I feel like crap because it is the first day of my period. I feel like I need to throw up and I kind of wish I could so I could go home. But I’m going to suck it up and get to work.

Things to look forward to

I just have to say that I am very excited for tomorrow! I only work half days on Fridays and after work I am meeting my friend Lynsie and she is going to come with me to look at houses!! I really wish Phil could go with me but he has to work so I asked Lynsie if she would like to come. I gave my realtor my top 5 houses out of 12 and we are for sure looking at those. I think he also added a few more in there. I am really hoping that I find one that I like. I have only looked at 4 houses so far and they have all sucked balls. Since I have not found anything to my liking yet I am not having too much fun with this. You would think that there would be a ton of houses to look at since the economy is so bad but there really isn’t. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of houses to look at in town but I don’t want to live in town. No, I take that back… I WILL NOT LIVE IN TOWN! I grew up in the country and I’m going to stay in the country. Anyways, so I’m looking forward to looking at these houses but I’m also scared that they will suck and I’ll be sad once again. I don’t want to be the girl that looks at 50+ houses before she finds the one. You may get the impression that I’m picky but I’m really not! I just want a decent size house in decent condition in the country within 30 miles of Hudson. Is that so much to ask for? Anyways, after my house hunt Phil and I are going on our date night. It is his turn so he gets to pick a restaurant for us to go to. After that we will go home and spend a little time together before I go rollerblading with Jewells. Rollerblading and eating healthier really makes quite a difference! I feel much, much better about my body and I feel healthier and more energetic. I haven’t really lost much weight but I can sure feel a difference.

I am also very excited for Saturday night. I know I already said that on my last post but I’m really, really excited!

...It's been a while

I had a lovely weekend! Phil and I went on our date Friday night. We decided to go to the Hammond Hotel again since that has now become Phil’s favorite restaurant. We have been there a good number of times and have always loved it but this time it was pretty bad. Haha We got stuck with a really stupid waitress. She was so stupid that it was funny. Phil and I are still laughing about it. She was like the stupid blonde in the movies who you think, nobody can be that stupid in real life, and she was!!! Then we just went home and popped in a good movie and relaxed.

Saturday I went to look at 3 houses. We were supposed to look at 4 but one had an accepted offer of course. The first house we looked at was just outside of Hammond. I would have to say that was my favorite out of the 3, however, it was still a no. The next house was in Eau Galle and I loved, loved, loved the area and it had plenty of acres to go with the house. The house however, too small. :( So we were off to the 3rd house which was in Spring Valley. Let’s just say it was an old farm house that nobody has updated… ever. That was also a negative. So, I have now looked at 4 houses total and all of them were a big fat NO. We still have plenty more time though! I am already stressing out over this house deal. I am afraid we might find a house too soon and we can’t put an offer in quite yet. But I am also afraid that we won’t find one before December 1st. If we don’t find one before December 1st we will have to sign a new lease on our duplex and we will also loose out on the free $8,000 the government wants to give us! Now that is something to stress about!

Sunday Phil and I did some heavy duty cleaning. We cleaned the whole house, mopped the floors and even steam cleaned the couches and the carpet. Now our house doesn’t smell like dogs anymore!!! Yay! After we got the house cleaned we headed over to his mom’s house for Mother’s Day and it was also her birthday. There were about 20 people from his mom’s side of the family there and we grilled out and ate good food. :) We were supposed to go see Wolverine but we didn’t leave his mom’s house in time. Hopefully next weekend we will go see it!

Phil just texted me something as I was writing this blog that just made my day!!! He sent me a picture of the coffee can we have at home and said this is why I’m so tired, read the top of the can. Haha it is decaf!!!!!! Now if you know Phil like I do you would think that is hilarious!!!!!!!! I started laughing out loud here at work!! He was wondering why he has been so tired lately. He drinks a lot of coffee in the morning and sometimes when he gets home from work. On days when he doesn’t go to work he pretty much drinks the whole pot. And for the last few weeks he has been drinking decaf!!! Oh my god, that’s hilarious!

p.s. Sorry it has been so long since I last blogged! I'll try to be more on top of things!

Over the weekend

Things have slowly started to happen!!!!! Phil and I looked at our first house on Saturday. We really, really wanted to look at a particular house in Baldwin out in the country but apparently someone made an offer on the house. Our realtor said we could still look at it since it is just pending but most likely the offer from the other people will go through and we wouldn’t get the house. So what is the point of looking at it then? We might just fall in love with it and then I would be upset because I couldn’t have it. Technically we could have looked at it and put in a higher offer BUT we don’t want to close until Octoberish so I’m pretty sure we would get a big fat NO from the home owners! So instead we went and looked at a house in Hammond out in the country. The house looked pretty good from the pictures but when we got there it looked rather small. Then when we got inside, wow… the place was a dump. Every single floor needed to be replaced. It actually wouldn’t have been so bad for what they were selling it for but the house was too damn small and the basement was total 70s! There was red/black carpet on the floors and the walls! So that house was definitely a no but I’m very excited that we started looking! We are going to take this slow until July and then we are going to be much more serious about it after July. We want to close on a house in October if possible because our lease is up in November. I’ve got like 15 houses that I want to look at!! This is all so exciting! I will keep you updated as we go along!

Phil and I had our date night on Saturday and we went and saw Crank High Voltage. Now I was very, very excited to see this movie because I loved the first one. I also really like Jason Statham. However, the second one… eh, not so good. It was more of a porno than a movie. I would have to say that it is a great guy movie but there was just a little bit too much boob for my taste. Also, there were just too many stupid parts of the movie. There were too many parts where I had to ask, “Who does that?” Besides that movie, Phil and I had a very lovely weekend! I got my homework done, got the house cleaned, washed the dogs, gave Vader a facial haircut, went for a walk, watched some movies, and relaxed.
